SEO(Search Engine Optimization) Implementation
The SEO search engine optimization is a process of getting organic (free) traffic to a website by making it visible in various search engine results. There are various ways that you can implement to do SEO depending on the website type. Websites can be CMS built or custom built. So we have different ways for both of these types which are explained as follows.
Websites built with CMS Softwares
There are various Content Management System (CMS) softwares like WordPress, Joomla, Magento, etc. which helps to build a website.It can be hosted directly or via ftp on the web server. The CMS will have special plugin/extension for SEO. Each of these CMS has its own store from which you can download that specific SEO plugin.
Yoast SEO plugin
There are various plugins in the market out of which we recommend Yoast SEO Plugin. It is a great choice for beginners. It has free demo version available which can be downloaded at here. Its premium version has all the functionalities including 5 focus keywords, meta description, editable title and real-time predictive checking system with social previews of Facebook and Twitter. Once you install it on your site, there will be SEO pallet below each page/post which enables you to set the keywords and meta description as shown in following screenshot.
You can easily make your website rank higher with this plugin, but remember, millions of other people are using it! So smartness is needed.
Custom built Websites
These types of websites are built by custom coding and needs more technical work to implement a good SEO strategy. Though it somewhat seems to be difficult, but not impossible, too. We will see what major things can be done to make our website SEO ready.
Important points in SEO
Keywords
Keywords plays an important role in SEO. They provide a one word description about your website. They are simply defined in the meta tag as follow.

We can add as many keywords as we can, but adding lots of keywords also has no meaning and has no effect. The keyword should be chosen in such a way that it should be repetitive, relevant to your website and most important, any keyword should be used only once in a whole website. The meta tag should be defined in <head></head> section. Using average 5 keywords are sufficient and they should be defined in every page. Every page should have unique keywords.
Meta Description
Meta description is the description that search engine uses to show it below your website title as shown below.
It is a custom written meta description that appearing below the website URL. The keyword Technopoints is highlighted in the above image because it is put in the search box and the keyword matched the search term. The meta description for every website is always embedded in the meta tag as shown below.

The description should be written such that it contains the keyword. Try to bring the keyword at the beginning position for better results.
Slug
A slug is a URL-friendly version of the Website address. The slug also matters in the website SEO. The hypens (-) should be used instead of underscores (_) in the url to make it SEO friendly. Take care that you have included your keywords in the slug for better performance.
Internal Links
Internal links are the links to the other relevant pages in your website. The search engine bots index the pages which are created as an internal links in other pages. It is simply hyperlinking as usual. This technique binds all the website pages together.
Webmaster Console
Every search engine has its own Webmaster console where we can submit our website to them. The website is then indexed by the bots and increases the chances to appear in the search results. Popular ones are listed below. This strategy is common for both types of website.
